UPDATED: Resellers accuse Sun of anti-competitive behaviour

A competition complaint has been filed against Sun Microsystems with the Office of Fair Trading (OFT). The Association of Service and Computer Dealers International (Ascdi) filed the complaint earlier this week with the OFT, over concerns about Sun's refusal to provide provenance information, which are details about distribution and product-specific sales. Ascdi President Joe Marion said that in late 2006 Sun successfully sued US firm Amtech for copyright infringement, after that firm resold new products. ...more

Gartner: Toshiba top of the notebook chart

For the third consecutive quarter, Toshiba has kept ahead of laptop competitors. With 75,474 sales Toshiba took 18 per cent of the market share, ahead of Dell that claimed sixteen per cent of the market with 66,621 units shifted. Rounding out the top five, Hewlett-Packard took third place with twelve per of the market, followed by Acer and IBM with nine and seven per cent, respectively. ...more

New Hackarmy Trojan plays on pictures of Osama Bin-Laden

A new virus that tempts users into visiting a website with the promise of images of the corpse of Osama Bin-Laden will result in a Trojan being downloaded to the visitor's computer, warns Sophos. Infections of the Hackarmy-A Trojan have been driven by messages posted to bulletin boards that claim CNN reporters discovered the Al-Quaida leader's hanged body earlier this week. The message goes on to claim that the US authorities want to determine whether or not the images are authentic and the body that of Bin-Laden and so have kept the images from the public. ...more
