Fifteen new ADSL exchanges confirmed

BT has begun enabling a further 15 exchanges with ADSL. This will bring the total number of exchanges upgraded since BT began its registration scheme to 33. Lenovo share dealing suspended as IBM speculation mounts

Chinese manufacturer Lenovo halted trading of its shares on the Hong Kong stock exchange this morning as the company is set to announce 'price sensitive information', according to the Chinese website Pacific Epoch. The speculation is that the announcement will be in connection with the rumours sweeping the industry about a possible deal to buy IBM's Personal Systems Division. Another Chinese company, Great Wall Computer, which already has a joint venture with IBM, has also suspended trading. ...more

PowerMac overhaul with GeForce3

Apple has overhauled the PowerMac range unveiled just last month, introducing a new dual processor model, a 'Special Offer' model and, as a built-to-order option, the new GeForce3 graphics card. The range has also been rebranded and now comprises six models; the GeForce3 card can be added at a cost of ?240 (?310 for the 466MHz model). Intel confirms a multicore future

Intel has finally confirmed what most people had already guessed - that it had abandoned the single core, high clock speed strategy. In future, its products will be multi-core with the first commercial chips arriving next year. In a strategy talk, Steve Smith, VP for Intel's Desktop Platforms Group, said that the new desktop dual core processor - dubbed Smithfield - is slated to replace today's generation of Pentium chips. ...more
