Search Engine Strategies 2007: Microsoft lifts veil on AdCenter search tools

Despite a relatively slow start compared to rivals Google and Yahoo!, Microsoft has come out fighting with plans for a new generation of tools for its AdCenter contextual advertising service. Demos of the latest thinking from Microsoft AdCenter Labs were being shown at London's Search Engine Strategies show. Europe agrees mobile roaming price caps

European Union legislators were set to back a popular plan on Wednesday to slash the cost of using mobile phones abroad in the 27-member bloc. The EU's executive Commission says the plan will cut prices to a quarter or a fifth of what EU citizens now pay for calls back home from other member states. The price caps are part of a push by the Union to show it can bring real benefits to its 490 million citizens, many of whom complain Brussels is too remote from their daily lives. ...more

Yahoo!'s new search is a great find

Yahoo has at last begun the process to wean itself off its reliance on the Google search engine. It has now released a revamped version of the Inktomi `Slurp` spider to crawl the web. As a result, the Yahoo web search results now appear to be exclusively those from Slurp and Google has been dropped from the listings. ...more
