Highest court lets it lie for AOL

The US Supreme Court has refused to revive a lawsuit against America Online brought by subscribers. AOL was accused of imposing unjust charges and failing to protect customer privacy. According to a report in USA Today, the court turned down, without comment, the subscribers' argument that AOL should be considered a ''common carrier'' that can be regulated by the Federal Communications Commission. ...more

Online advertising provides boost for Yahoo!

Yahoo!, long since seen as a bellwether stock for the Internet sector, has reported stunning results for its financial fourth quarter, far in advance of analysts predictions. Revenues increased by a whopping 62 per cent largely due to huge jumps from non-US sales. UPDATED: BT to offer Voice over IP phone calls for cable subscribers

BT has launched a service that will allow NTL and Telewest cable subscribers to make phone calls over the Internet using their existing cable line. The service will employ VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) technology, which means that rather than calls being carried over a phone line, they will instead use cable subscribers' existing broadband connection. It is the first time that a major player in the UK telecommunications market has adopted VoIP to provide domestic phone services. ...more
