Sony increases Memory Stick

At the moment, Sony's proprietary storage device, the Memory Stick, only comes in a maximum flavour of 128Mb. But with digital devices requiring more free memory, Sony has announced that it is to expand the range. Next year, the company is to launch 256Mb and 512Mb versions of the Memory Stick with a 1Gb model appearing in 2003. ...more

AMD launches three new dual core Opteron chips

AMD has upped the ante in the battle for the next generation of x86 class servers with the announcements of three new versions of its dual core Opteron range. The three new chips span the range from one-way devices for workstations through to a version aimed at large eight way enterprise class servers. The three new parts announced are the Model 880 for up to eight-way enterprise servers that equates to a 16-core machine while the Model 280 is targeted at high performance dual-processor workstations and servers. ...more

mmO2 to share 3G burden with T-Mobile

The European Commission has cleared proposed 3G network sharing agreements for mmO2 and T-Mobile. The agreements were filed for approval early this year and the Commission found that the benefits of sharing network elements would lead to a faster network roll out without impacting on competition. Competition Commissioner Mario Monti said: 'Such co-operation deals can bring benefits for the consumer in terms of a faster introduction of new services, more competition and a lesser impact to the environment. ...more

Microsoft Office, Vista reach final straight
