Michelin Red Guide for your PDA

The famous hotel- and restaurant-rating Michelin Red Guide is now available for all the major PDA devices. Up to date for 2001, the Red Guide for France contains more than 13,500 hotels and restaurants, and the Europe Guide contains more than 10,000 addresses in 110 different major European cities in over 20 countries. IBM, Novell back secure online ID initiative

A consortium of companies led by IBM is promoting a new secure online identity management system based on open-source software. Big Blue, along with Novell and Parity Communications say they will be contributing code to the initiative known as 'Project Higgins' which aims to develop a new generation of applications and services which will give Internet users more control over their personal online identity information. Microsoft shares the source

The source code for its implementation of C# and the .NET CLI (Common Language Infrastructure) has been made available by Microsoft. It has not been released as Open Source, but as 'Shared Source' (Microsoft has its own restrictions on what can be done with the code), primarily for the benefit of academic - rather than commercial - institutions. ...more

Judge kills off SCO claims

SCO has had the lion's share of the examples it put forward as evidence of the 'misappropriation' by IBM ripped from its case. Judge Brooke Wells issued an order granting an IBM motion to dismiss SCO's claims due to lack of specificity: from a list of nearly 200 claims contested by IBM, just 10 remain - essentially removing two-thirds of SCO's contention. Aside from lack of specificity as to what exactly the code in question is, the straw that broke the Judge's patience is that SCO required far greater levels of specificity from IBM when requesting materials for evidence throughout the discovery period: a level of exactitude to which it was unable, or unwilling, to rise itself. ...more
