France Telecom showcases VDSL2 broadband

France Telecom, parent of UK subsidiaries Wanadoo and Orange, has demonstrated VDSL2 broadband technology at its headquarters in Issy-les-Moulineaux in Paris. VDSL2 uses an extended frequency range of 30MHz and DMT modulation to massively expand the bandwidth available to as high as 100Mbps, still using standard 'last-mile' copper connections. Medion tracks new sat nav devices

Medion has just launched a new range of sat nav devices starting from a penny shy of ?150. The German manufacturer has a strong tradition in producing keenly priced handheld devices to sell through large retailers, such as supermarkets, that has served it well in the PDA market, and its GPS range looks to be in a similar vein. Tablet PCs yet to top 100,000 in Europe

Devices using Microsoft's Tablet PC operating system are still struggling to make inroads into Europe, according to research group Canalys, with shipments yet to reach 100,000 since last year's November launch. With 91,950 units having been shipped to date, and figures for the quarter 20 per cent down sequentially, Canalys has reiterated its calls for Microsoft to step into the breach, subsidise the OS and establish a dedicated marketing team to drive it forward in Europe. Bagle worm mutates and attacks again

Antivirus vendors have been raising the alarm over another version of the Bagle worm. Bagle-AQ is being reported in vast numbers by the likes of McAfee, Secunia and Sophos, using a range of sophisticated techniques to slip past antivirus software.
