Mozilla updates the Thunderbird email client

The Mozilla Organisation has released an update for its fully-features email client, Thunderbird. In addition to a lengthy list of bug fixes, the update provides several new features, including: the ability to have several email addresses going into the same account; Secure Password Authentication using a new cross-platform NTLM authentication mechanism for POP3 and SMTP; a new Palm Sync address book conduit; and an improved Spell Checker. Dell warned over P4 adverts showing Celeron machine

The ASA (Advertising Standards Authority) has found Dell guilty of breaking advertising standards with a recent TV ad. In the broadcast Dell trumpeted its commitment to the Intel Pentium 4 but also highlighted the low cost of its entry level machines, which ran on Celeron processors. A viewer complained the advert was misleading in that non-technical viewers might not be aware the lower price related to a lower performance processor. ...more

EU official given leave to join Microsoft

An EU official has been given leave of absence to join Microsoft, despite suspicions that he has been involved in the European Commission's investigation into Microsoft's practices. Detlef Eckert previously worked for the European Commission Information Society directorate, responsible for mapping Internet and IT strategy across the European Union. Officials denied that in this role he had taken any part in the investigations into Microsoft. ...more
