PocketZip hits 100Mb

Iomega has released a 100Mb version of its PocketZip drive. Previously limited to 40Mb, the PocketZip drive could be an ideal way of keeping your data mobile while keeping down the costs of doing so. The drive will be backwards compatible and able to read and write to the 40Mb disks and the 100Mb disks will still be inexpensive (about $10 each when bought in a ten-pack - currently 40Mb disks cost about ?8 each in the UK in boxes of ten, so expect that figure to be slightly more for the 100Mb version by the time it reaches our shores). ...more

eMusic quashes Amazon sales talk

eMusic has denied that is up for sale. Recent reports suggested that Amazon was interested in buying the DRM-free music service. In an interview with US business magazine Forbes, eMusic's president and chief executive David Pakman acknowledged that he had been approached 'by everyone' but insisted that the company can maintain its position as the number two digital music retailer while remaining independent. ...more

Chinese dissident sues Yahoo! for providing information that led to his arrest

Yahoo! and its Chinese affiliates are being sued by a Chinese couple, who allege the Internet firms provided information that helped the Chinese government prosecute one of them for his Internet writings. Wang Xiaoning was sentenced to ten years in prison last year for 'incitement to subvert state power' after he emailed electronic journals advocating democratic reform and a multi-party system. In the complaint filed in US District Court for Northern California, Wang and his wife Yu Ling charged the Internet firms turned over details to prosecutors that helped identify him to authorities. ...more

AMD to cease branding processors with xHz rating

New models will instead be named after Pentium 4-based performance ratings. AMD will launch future Athlon processors using a model name rather than the usual clock speed rating.
