Windows XP users warned off debugging system

The US Department of Energy has warned government users of a potential security hole in Windows XP, which is released tomorrow. The department's Computer Incident Advisory Capability (CIAC) claims that the software's error reporting feature could send confidential government data across the Internet to a Microsoft database. The feature sends crash and debugging information back to Microsoft whenever a problem occurs with XP, and is designed to help the company detect and fix bugs. ...more

Online advertising provides boost for Yahoo!

Yahoo!, long since seen as a bellwether stock for the Internet sector, has reported stunning results for its financial fourth quarter, far in advance of analysts predictions. Revenues increased by a whopping 62 per cent largely due to huge jumps from non-US sales. Hong Kong movie pirate sentenced

A Hong Kong man convicted of movie piracy using the BitTorrent service has been sentenced to three months. Unemployed 38-year-old Chan Nai-ming was convicted last month of distributing three movies: Daredevil, Red Planet and Miss Congeniality; making him the first BitTorrent user to be successfully prosecuted for the offence.
