Backed by the Stanford Center for Internet and Society's Fair Use Project, Carol Shloss, acting English professor at Stanford University, is asking the court to rule that she is entitled to quote Joyce's writings under laws that permit the use of copyrighted work where it is done in 'a scholarly transformative manner'. Joyce's estate, which is managed by his grandson, Stephen James Joyce, has refused to let Schloss quote from the Irishman's published works, manuscripts and private letters. ...more Doubts flare over delivery of Apple's new iPods Conflicting reports have emerged about the availability of Apple's new iPod shuffle, originally scheduled to begin shipping this month. The online Apple Store still states that the compact music player will ship this month, but according to Think Secret, employees at the company's retail stores have been told that the first devices will not be available until the middle of next month, while Amazon has changed its shipping date to 25 November. The product, which the company has slated to launch in the second half of 2005, is the company's first entry into the disk-based backup and recovery market The product is designed to operate with Server 2003, Windows Storage Server 2003 and Active Directory and is aimed at companies with between five and 49 servers to manage.
