Novell announces Q1 results

Microsoft's half a billion dollar payout swelled Novell's coffers in its Q1 results. During the quarter, Novell received a $448mn cheque from Microsoft, settling its complaints around NetWare, which were part of the EU investigation. AMD to supply 26,000 processors to schools in China

AMD has signed a deal to supply 26,000 processors for PCs in schools in China. The deal with Chinese OEMs Dawning and Lenovo - the new owners of IBM's PC division - means AMD will supply Sempron chips to Lenovo Qitian M 6200M PCs and Opterons for the Dawning Tiankuo A Series i200-A servers. Huge new communications satellite launches

A powerful new communications satellite has been successfully launched from a converted oil platform in the Pacific Ocean. The satellite, known as Inmarsat-4 F2 has been launched to upgrade broadband and 3G communications across the Americas, the western Atlantic and the Eastern Pacific. Intel hypes Hyper-Threading

Intel has been showing off its latest processor technology, Hyper-Threading, a design for handling parallel data instructions. With promises of improving system performances by up to 30 per cent, the new processor design allows a single processing unit to handle data instructions as "threaded" parallel streams. The inevitable Web angle is provided by the claim that Hyper-Threading can significantly improve the number of Web transactions and users that Intel-based servers can handle at the same time. ...more
