Apple shareholders 'wait and see'

Apple shareholders took what the Financial Times called a 'wait-and-see' approach following the company's announcement that CEO Steve Jobs had been cleared of any wrongdoing in the granting of stock options. The report into options granted between 1997 and 2002 found 15 instances where grants were backdated to increase their worth, but exonerated Jobs. In the few instances he was aware that favourable grant dates had been selected, he did not receive or otherwise benefit from these grants and was unaware of the accounting implications. ...more

AMD aims for a quiet revolution

AMD has set out a new range of its desktop processors with the emphasis on low power consumption. The company has announced new energy efficient AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core, AMD Athlon 64 and AMD Sempron processors, based on the new socket AM2 design. Sun wins NHS desktop deal

A deal for 5,000 Java Desktop System from Sun Microsystems is expected to be announced by the NHS later this week. The NHS National Programme for IT (NPfIT) has already signed a deal with Sun for infrastructure hardware, software, services and support last month. Charles Andrews, director of Public Sector sales for Sun Microsystems, said: 'Our arrangement will directly support and enable the NHS objectives of achieving business transformation and enhanced patient care through the delivery of patient centric computing which makes the best use of all the medical information in the health care sector, whilst at the same time providing demonstrable best value for the taxpayer. ...more
