US government backs Philips' and HP's video content protection technology

HP and Philips have gained approval from the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for their video content protection system (VCPS), formerly dubbed Vidi. The system is seen by the two companies as central to the management of digital entertainment content - to enable flexible viewing of broadcast digital data, but to enable the content providers to control the extent of its redistribution. New P2P client aims to shut-out snoopers

Mute is a new peer-to-peer file sharing application that claims to be able to circumvent the measures that the US record industry use to indentify and sue individuals making large collections of music available over the Internet. Mute does this by assigning each user a random, virtual address as well as a standard IP address and by routing downloads over several computers rather than directly between the host and client machine. AMD support forum infected with .wmf attack

Finnish security company F-Secure says that AMD's online discussion forum appears to be infected a WMF exploit. It says that anyone visiting the site is sent such an exploit through an encoded IFRAME directive and warns against viewing. Majority of phishing websites 'assembled from kits'

New research has found that almost all phishing websites are made from off-the-shelf components available from the internet. The study carried out by IBM's Internet Security Systems subsidiary found that 92 per cent of new phishing web sites were kit-based.
