Microsoft takes on US eBay counterfeit traders

Microsoft is ramping up its campaign against counterfeiting, filing eight suits in the US against eBay traders selling dodgy software. Microsoft fingered seven of the defendants through customers using its Windows Genuine Advantage tool, which determines whether Microsoft software is genuine and allows them to submit reports of where they bought the software if it proves counterfeit. Software piracy remains constant - IDC

The battle against software piracy seems to be making little headway, according to a new study. For a third consecutive year, software piracy rates have remained at 35 per cent, according to research from IDC on behalf of the Business Software Alliance (BSA) and its Fourth Annual Global Software Piracy Study. Nokia to use Linux in Media Terminal

Nokia will use Linux in its rival to Microsoft's Xbox console, the company said today. The mobile phone manufacturer is working on a home entertainment system called the Media Terminal that will be a games console, digital set-top box, digital video recorder and Web browser. Yahoo! to launch its own blogging service

Internet portal Yahoo! has finally announced its long-awaited move into the blogging arena. The company says that it will be making a version of its Yahoo! 360 'Web log and social networking service' to a restricted number of users from March 29th.
