Adobe tempts graphics firms to OpenHD Alliance

Adobe has announced that 10 more companies have joined its OpenHD Alliance, which aims to provide an integrated, certified high definition hardware and software for Windows. The new members include manufacturers of graphics cards, video capture devices, video accelerators, audio tools and storage products. Together with the introduction of the Adobe Production Studio they have enabled Adobe to create seven new turnkey solutions supporting HDV to real-time compressed and uncompressed HD. ...more

AMD boosts Opteron server range

AMD has added two- and eight-way server processors to the 64-bit Opteron range. It claims the Model 252 and 852 processors now represent 'the world's highest performing processors' for servers and workstations. BlackBerry gets speed Edge

RIM and Cingular have announced a new BlackBerry handheld that is the first to take advantage of Cingular's Edge network, the 'largest and fastest' national wireless data network in the US. The BlackBerry 8700c is built on the Intel XScale architecture with a PXA901 cellular processor and is the first RIM device compatible with Edge networks. Edge, or Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution, provides faster data throughput than standard mobile networks, although not as quick as 3G services. ...more
