Microsoft injects Sega with Xtra hope

Sega has been left feeling vindicated in its decision to concentrate on software with the annoncement from Microsoft today that its Xbox console will launch with 11 Sega titles in Autumn. Sega games including Sega GT 2 and Panzer Dragoon will accompany the console's launch in Japan and the USA. The company will also supply titles to Xbox's more established rival, Sony's PS2. ...more

Intel launches business desktop brand

Intel today announced a new brand, vPro, a collection of technologies for business PCs that it hopes will follow in the highly successful footsteps of Centrino Mobile Technology for notebooks. Just as Centrino didn't in itself deliver anything radically new, but created a brand around which hardware manufacturers could sell their products, vPro aims to take existing and already announced technologies to create a reassuring brand for IT managers. Asus stuns Computex with ?100 laptop

International phishing gang seized by the Bulgarians

Bulgarian authorities claim to have arrested a gang involved in an international phishing operation. The Bulgarian law-enforcement National Services to Combat Organized Crime (NSCOC) agency said it arrested eight people during raids last week in three Bulgarian cities in connection with financial fraud and identity-theft scams carried out over the Internet. The gang allegedly used spoofed emails that were designed to look as if they were from MSN customer services as well as web pages mocked up to look like MSN content to dupe their victims. ...more

Over third of EU citizens unable to use a computer

More than a third of the adult population of Europe have no basic computer skills according to a new study. The survey, carried out by Eurostat, found that 37 per cent of people within the European Union and aged between 16 and 74 had no computer skills. The best performing countries were the Scandinavian nations. ...more
