RealNetworks is to sue Microsoft Corporation for violations under the US antitrust laws. The company alleges that Microsoft has illegally used its monopoly power to restrict competition, limit consumer choice and attempt to monopolize the growing field of digital media. Intel finally cancels Digital TV screen project

In another development in what is becoming a depressing year for Intel, the company has announced that it has finally abandoned plans to get into the digital TV screen business. The company now says that it has formally cancelled the project and disbanded the team working on it. Earlier this year, Intel had already postponed the commercial roll out of Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LCOS) technologies which would have held out the promise of a new generation of flat screen televisions. ...more

Kapersky Labs has published a virus report for 2002, showing top 4 viruses exploit the same flaw in IE. In a year where highly publicised viruses such as BugBear and Opasoft would have led one to suppose that most Web-savvy users were well aware of the threat from the Net, Kapersky Labs' annual report proves that a significant proportion of users are not keeping their software up to date. The top four viruses for 2002 all exploit an IFRAME security hole in Internet Explorer that can be easily fixed simply by applying the latest patch. ...more
