Apple Inc and Apple Corp settle

The war of the Apples is over as Steve Jobs' Apple Inc and The Beatles' Apple Corp reach a new agreement. Apple Inc will now own all of the trademarks related to 'Apple' but will license some of them back to Apple Corps. New anti-trust judge makes first order

The new judge in the Microsoft anti-trust case has made her first ruling, but it is only to set the timetable for a status meeting on the case. Newly-appointed District Court Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly, has ordered the two sides to report on the remaining issues by 14 September and set a meeting on the status of the case for the following week. Toshiba, NEC to collaborate on 45nm processes

Japanese electronics giants Toshiba and NEC have signed a deal to work together on developing a 45 nanometer production process for the next generation of microelectronics. As Toshiba already has an agreement in place to develop 45nm technology with Sony, the expectation is that NEC engineers will join in the existing effort taking place at Toshiba's Advanced Microelectronics Centre in Yokohama. The hope is that by sharing the huge investments needed to create a commercial production process Japan will be able to overtake Intel and Samsung in chip design. ...more
