G8 signals renewed attack on Internet child abuse

The world's richest countries have vowed to redouble efforts to combat the sexual exploitation of children by Internet pornographers. Interior and justice ministers from the G8 nations - Germany, USA, Britain, France, Italy, Canada, Japan and Russia promised to step up efforts to stamp out child porn during the first working session of a conference on Web crime in Munich, Germany. Academics crack wireless security within a minute

Cryptographic researchers claim that the security found in most wireless access points can now be cracked in under a minute. By refining an attack against Wired Equivalent Privacy (Wep) developed by Andreas Klein in 2005, enough packets could be collected to open up a Wep-protected network in around a minute. This is according to Erik Tews, Andrei Pychkine and Ralf-Philipp Weinmann at the cryptography and computer algebra group at the Technical University Darmstadt in Germany. ...more

D-Link claims market's first Vista-ready Draft N router

D-Link claims it is first to market with a wireless router that is based on the draft 802.11n wireless networking standard and that also carries a Works with Windows Vista logo. Having the stamp of approval of Microsoft Labs, D-Link boasts that its Wireless N Gigabit Router (DIR-655) will work smoothly with home networks of machines running the Vista OS, which will be released 30 January. ...more

Gartner warns Linux market greatly inflated

Linux desktops are being increasingly bought to install pirated copies of Windows, according to Gartner UK. Around 40 per cent of Linux desktops give the free operating system a very short shelf life before being ousted in favour of a pirate copy of Windows, according to the report.
