Apple's iPod nano uses a custom chip from Portal Player, the company that makes the processors behind the hard-disk iPods but which has never before worked on a flash-based player. iSuppli Teardown Analysis, which examines the cost impact of device components, reports that the nano uses Portal Player's 5021C System on Chip, which it describes as a 'surprising choice'. Apple looks to take iTunes in-car

Apple is in talks with a number of major car manufacturers to bring iTunes into the car. Speaking at today's launch of the iTunes Music Store in the UK, Germany and France, Apple CEO Steve Jobs said that he expected to be able to make an announcement later this year. He said that while you can play iTunes music through your computer, your iPod and your h-fi, the car remained the one area where people listen to a lot of music but couldn't access their iTunes collection. ...more

P2P prevalent in big business

A survey by Canadian company AssetMetrix of more than 560 companies has found that 77 per cent had PCs running peer-to-peer applications. The company surveyed more than 175,000 computers and found that some companies have P2P applications on as many as 58 per cent, with firms that have more than 500 PCs guaranteed to have at least one running Internet file sharing software.
