Microsoft hits home straight with Vista RC1

Microsoft is finally on the home straight for the release of its Vista operating system. Last Friday, the company first made Windows Vista RC1 available to the TechBeta technical testers. Cable rules OK in the UK

A recent survey by Oftel has shown that cable could be the driving force for consumer uptake of broadband. The price survey of Internet access during August of this year compares narrowband and broadband rates between the USA, France, Germany, Sweden and the UK. Government prepares broadband review

The UK Government has commissioned a review of projected broadband developments over the next decade and any implications that this will have for regulation of the industry. The review will be carried out by the Cabinet Office's Performance and Innovation Unit and will compare the experiences of Oftel and equivalent regulatory bodies in other countries and study the expected impact of new technologies such as xDSL and 3G. The announcement comes as the Government faces increasing pressure to help accelerate the rate of broadband roll-out and local-loop unbundling. ...more
