Music services show mixed financial results

ISPs slam attempts to reveal alleged file sharers

UK Internet service providers have slammed attempts by the music industry to persuade them to give up the identities of alleged file sharers. The Internet Service Providers Association (ISPA), an umbrella organisation for UK ISPs, described a letter by the BPI to two of its members, Tiscali and Bulldog, as 'detrimental to the spirit of co-operation' that the Internet industry wants to foster with the music business. While insisting that it does not support 'abuses of copyright and intellectual property theft', the ISPA said that its members would be acting outside the law if they co-operated with BPI demands. ...more

MuVo moves up

Creative is making a 128Mb version of its lightweight MP3 player available in the UK. It should be on shop shelves in a couple of weeks. Previously, the MuVo - aimed at those listening music on the move - was only available with 64Mb of memory. ...more

Apple set for bumper Flash harvest with new Samsung deal

Apple is poised to sign a long-term deal with Samsung to secure several millions of dollars' worth of Flashmemory chips, according to Korea's edaily. The deal will secure Apple a lion's share of the supply of the NAND chips that it uses in the iPod nano. Flash memory is reported to be in short supply, not least because Apple is believed to have secured around 40 per cent of Samsung's total output for the second half of 2005. ...more
