UK games chart: Cars chokes the opposition

There's a log jam at the top of this week's ELSPA games chart, with the top four holding their places. This leaves THQ's Disney PIXAR movie spin-off Cars (DS, GBA, GC, PC, PS2, PSP, Xb, Wii and X360) holding its line at number one. LineOne investigated by ISPA

The Internet Service Provider's Association (ISPA) has confirmed that LineOne is being investigated as a result of withdrawing its unmetered service. LineOne received an enormous amount of criticism in the press in July when it closed down its flat-rate access service, allegedly due to overwhelming customer demand. Blu-ray boosts FireWire

The adoption of Blu-ray technology for high-volume data storage will provide a major boost for FireWire, according to the 1394 Trade Association, which oversees development of the high-speed data interface. Consumer electronics companies including Samsung, Sharp and LaCie have already introduced HD-capable FireWire-equipped Blu-ray disc technology. Sharp, for instance, has introduced a Blu-ray recorder equipped with 1394 connectivity for recording high-definition TV programs from its FireWire-equipped TV sets. ...more

The National Statistics Office has updated its records for Internet access within the UK. The latest figures relate to March 2003 and suggest a creeping growth for Net connectivity - since March 2002 there was a 3.1 per cent increase in the number of 'subscriptions' to the Internet, which is the statisticians terms for Net access. ...more
