BT prunes with an axe

BT is to sell stock in a number of its divisions in a bid to cut back its debt by up to ?10bn and boost share value, confirming market expectations of a drop in profits. BT's shares have halved in value this year and the company will sell up to 25 per cent of shares in BT Wireless and its Yell directory services as well as head towards listing its Internet business, BT Ignite.
