HomeChoice goes the local loop unbundling route for multimedia broadband

HomeChoice has turned to local loop unbundling to increase bandwidth for its combined ADSL, TV and video-on-demand broadband package. VideoNetworks (VNL), which supplies the service, has installed its own equipment in 12 exchanges across North-West and West London. RealOne player binds Helix

Following RealNetwork's recent announcement of its Helix technology, which it made open-source, it has released the gold release of version 2 of its consumer RealOne Player, the first to incorporate Helix. The gold release is 'code complete' and, thanks to the Helix platform, can play more than 50 digital media formats, including Windows Media and QuickTime MPEG4. BT to widen 8Mbit trials from next month

BT is extending the reach of its 8Mbit broadband service next month. If successful, the trials will lead to a full roll out of an 8Mbit service across the BT network beginning in the spring of 2006. The company says that a broad roll out of an 8Mbit downstream speed will encourage a new wave of applications for its broadband service such as interactive gaming and video and music streaming as well as the more traditional email and surfing. ...more
