Dell recalls notebook batteries

PC manufacturer Dell has recalled 27,000 notebook computer batteries after one caught fire. Dell said it has only received one report of this happening and that no-one was hurt in the incident. The batteries involved are all made by Sanyo Electric and the fault isn't in the notebooks themselves. ...more

The EC backs broadband over the electricity grid

The European Commission is recommending that member states investigate the possibility of delivering broadband connections over the existing electricity grid. It urges EU nations to come up with clear and balanced regulations that will create competition and attract companies to the field. They must also remove any 'unjustified regulatory obstacles' that could impede development of the market and ensure energy companies get a fair crack at offering such services over the power line network. ...more

Ofcom to investigate BT's new residential phone tariffs

Telcoms regulator Ofcom is to investigate whether BT's new residential phone tariffs are anti-competitive. Ofcom says it has received complaints from 13 so-called Carrier Pre-Selection Operators (CPSOs).
