New Awards to honour women in technology

A new awards ceremony is being planned to honour women who have made outstanding contributions to technology. The awards are being organised by the women's networking group Aurora and sponsored by RIM, the company behind the must-have technology for upwardly mobile geeks, the Blackberry. BBC to commence trials of TV and Radio download service

A new BBC service which allows online views in Britain to catch up with the Corporation's TV and Radio output up to seven days after the original broadcast is about to go on trial with a test sample of 5000 viewers and listeners. The BBC will be road testing its iMP (interactive Media Player) service for broadband enabled viewers that will allow them to download and watch programmes from BBC TV and Radio. Security experts warn of fake Microsoft bulletin

Finnish security experts F-Secure are warning of a fake Microsoft bulletin being spammed out since early this morning. The email claims to be bulletin MS05-039, although June's patches were numbered -034. Apple to dominate music labels in new contract negotiations

Apple will re-negotiate its contracts with the major record companies next month, and is likely to be looking for further moves towards selling music without copy protection. The owner of the market-leading iPod digital media player and iTunes online music store has already cut an early deal with EMI, the third-largest record company, and enters talks with the other labels from a position of strength, according to music industry executives.
