IBM memory gadgets infected with computer virus

'False alerts' turn out to be genuine. Owners of IBM's 32Mb Memory Keys, USB devices that can be used as handy removable storage devices, may find their anti-virus programs detect a boot-sector virus called WYX (also known as Eek) residing on the key. Late last year Network Associates' anti-virus arm, McAfee, discovered that its products detected the virus, which technicians believed to be a false positive and attempted to find out why they were receiving alerts. ...more

Sony unveils its first Walkman phone

Sony Ericsson announced its first mobile under the Walkman brand - the W800. This is Sony Ericsson's bid to convince consumers that a mobile phone really can be a useful and high-quality music player, boasting a 512MB Memory Stick card included, 30 hours battery life when used as a music player (as opposed to a phone), quality accessories such as the included headset and a decent software suite for managing music both on the device and through a PC. Shuffle makes a splash

The iPod shuffle claimed 43 per cent of the worldwide flash player market in February, Apple said yesterday, quoting figures from NPD Techworld. Its success has boosted Apple's share of the market for all portable music players to around 70 per cent; over 90 per cent of all hard drive players sold are iPods Apple sold over five million iPods in the last three months, its best return yet, but declined to give separate figures for the three varieties.
