SCO meets IBM Interrogatories deadline, waiting on other information

SCO has filed a 'Notice of Compliance with Court Order' in response to the order to compel discovery granted to IBM, but says that due to 'certain officers and directors' being away for Christmas there are some files it expects to submit at a later date. In SCO's press release it describes its response as only answering 'certain interrogatories', and in the notice it says it may need to 'supplement or amend' its answers to the interrogatories as the investigation continues. In particular, it is unclear whether SCO has managed to 'identify and state with specificity the source code(s) that SCO is claiming form the basis of their action against IBM', as requested in the order. ...more

Compaq unveils its next generation PC

At the Comdex trade show, Compaq has previewed a new design for its Evo business PC range, the Evo D500 Ultra-slim Desktop. The model - to be available early next year - weighs around 11 pounds and its base unit measures 2.72 by 12 inches, making it 75 per cent smaller than the average desktop PC, Compaq claims. ...more

Pipex buys Bulldog's broadband customer base

Pipex has announced that it is to pay Cable & Wireless ?12m for Bulldog's 110,000 residential and small business broadband customers. C&W announced in June that it was pulling out of the retail broadband business to focus on its LLU-based wholesale business. In a deal separate to the customer acquisition, Pipex has signed up to add this network of 800 exchanges to its own LLU installations. ...more

BT has announced dates that another 20 exchanges will get ADSL broadband connections. The exchanges and the dates on which they will be upgraded are as follows. 24 September: Balby, Bearsden, Boston Spa, Bridport, Conisbrough, Flint, Haddenham, Holmewood, Martock, Metheringham, Middleton On Sea, Milford Haven, Oatlands, Okehampton, Royston, Shaftesbury, Smallfield and Stoke Bishop. ...more

New Sony Clie packs 2-meg digicam

Sony's new Clie PEG-NZ90 tops out its Clie range of handhelds, sporting Palm OS 5 zipping along over an Intel chip at 200MHz, along with Bluetooth and a 2megapixel digital camera. Available at the end of the month for a suggested retail price of a shade under ?600, the PEG-NZ90 maintains the same clean lines you expect from the Clie range and incorporates the swivel/rotate higne that allows you to position the button keyboard underneath the 320x480 TFT colour screen or flip it behind to protect it when not in use.
