Spam levels dropping by a third - security company

Email security company SoftScan claims spam levels dropped an unprecedented 30 per cent in the last week. The reason behind the drop could be because one of the main botnets used for sending out spam email might have temporarily lost control of the infected machines in its network. Millions of inboxes around the world may have been hit by a malicious Trojan horse that disables anti-virus software, SophosLabs has announced. The BagleDl-U Trojan has been spammed out across the globe and makes damaging changes to the registry in an attempt to shut-down anti-virus and other security software. The fifteen, with dates, are: Antrim, Northern Ireland; Badsey, Hereford & Worcester; Devonport, Devon; Dunblane, Central Region; Kidmore End, Oxfordshire - 21 May; Attleborough, Norfolk; Dronfield, Derbyshire; Highclere, Hampshire; Ingleby Barwick, Cleveland; Kingston Blount, Oxfordshire; Odiham, Hampshire; Southam, Warwickshire; Wormley, Surrey - 28 May; Wentworth, Surrey - 4 June; and Brimscombe, Gloucestershire - 28 June.
