NEC demonstrates quantum logic gates

We like to hear about futuristic technological developments, and they don't come much more futuristic than quantum logic gates. NEC researchers in Japan, working with the RIKEN Institute of Physical and Chemical Research, have announced just such a breakthrough. They claim to have successfully experimented with conditional logic gate operations involving two coupled quantum bits, or qubits (which use a quantum superposition of both the '0' and '1' states). ...more

Dell launches PowerVault RD1000 to help manage data explosion

Dell has announced its entry into the crowded low-cost storage market with a removable device for smaller businesses. It has launched the PowerVault RD1000, a small form factor removable storage device with backup and restore functionality. Laptops outsell desktops for first time

For the first time ever, May saw the value of laptop sales in the US exceed that of desktop machines, according to research firm The NPD Group. NPD's survey also revealed, again for the first time, that more LCD displays were sold during the month than CRTs. Wireless network equipment shortage worsening

Wireless network equipment makers in Taiwan, which supply nearly 80 per cent of global WLAN equipment, find themselves in a worsening situation for the supply of components, local IC distributors said.
