Appeal floodgates to open on Oftel?

Competition decision marks Oftel as fair game for appeals on its rulings A decision to uphold a complaint from Freeserve on BT's marketing practices after Oftel had decided to take no action makes the regulator subject to future appeals against its rulings The case stems from a complaint made by Freeserve in May of this year, that BT Openworld had unfairly benefited from its relationship with BT Retail, which Oftel decided not to take up. However, Freeserve appealed to the Competition Commission Appeals Tribunal (CCAT). The CCAT has now decided that Oftel not taking up the case constitutes a decision that there was no competition infringement, and therefore that this is a decision against which Freeserve can appeal. ...more

Music publishers license guitar tabs for the Web

The Harry Fox Agency (HFA) - a subsidiary of The National Music Publishers' Association - has begun licensing websites that want to reproduce guitar tabs, the notation that tells guitarists where to place their fingers in order to play a tune. Such websites have been around for some time, publishing the tabs without the consent of the copyright holder. A new analogue to digital video converter has been introduced in the UK, capable of inputting video from tape to a computer for digital editing and then outputting it back to tape. Datavideo's DAC-100 DV Converter can convert video from Digital-8, Video-8, Hi8, VHS, S-VHS, VHS-C and S-VHS-C.
