Virgin Mobile to trial TV to mobile phone service

Mobile telco Virgin Mobile is the latest company to announce that it is to pilot a mobile phone TV service. The company has partnered with BT Livetime to develop the service that is being piloted to around 1,000 Virgin Mobile customers within the M25. Sober deadline passes quietly

The security industry breathed a collective sigh of relief over the weekend as the date which was to trigger computers infected with the Sober virus to download more malicious code apparently passed without incident. Finnish security company F-Secure said that the online resources the machines were poised to tap had not been primed with any malicious code so that when the infected PCs logged on, there was nothing there to download. Furthermore, the company says that the worm was also programmed to stop spreading on 6 January and, as a result, the virus that had been by far the most prolific over the past two months has simply dropped off the radar. ...more

AMD's M690 mobile chipset offers full Vista graphics

AMD's 690 chipset was the first fruit borne of the company's $5 billion purchase of graphics company ATI last year, and now AMD has released a mobile equivalent, the M690. While the 690 was designed to work with AMD's Athlon and Sempron processors, the M690 works with Turion 64 X2 dual-core mobile systems. Amstrad's e-m@iler subscribers moved to Thus

Amstrad has announced that it has moved the entire user base of 201,000 e-m@iler and e-m@ilerplus users away from BT and on to Thus. The company says the move means that Amstrad 'will now receive an increased proportion of revenues generated.' As part of the deal, Thus and Amstrad have enabled e-m@ilers to receive SMS text messages from mobile phones. ...more
