Talks tabled to put protected CDs on iPods

Record labels are in talks with Apple to find a way of making copy-protected CDs compatible with iTunes and iPods. Major labels have recently released albums from a number of high-profile artists that include software to prevent them being ripped on a PC. Apple and Napster withdraw p2p adverts

Apple and Napster have withdrawn adverts running on p2p file sharing websites following criticism from the UK record industry. Steve Redmond, director of communications for the BPI, described the adverts as a 'sick joke'. 'We deplore the unauthorised distribution of music on internet sites which prosper by selling advertising on the back of copyright theft,' he told The Guardian. ...more

Intel sponsors BMW in Formula 1

Intel is to join the giddy world of Formula One racing with sponsorship of BMW and its Sauber team in 2006. The move will see BMW standardising on Intel kit across its data centres and throughout its 3,000 plus dealerships along with co-marketing and joint technology initiatives. Corporate laptops and PDAs will also be moved to Intel platforms and the two companies have pledged to develop a standard for connecting devices to BMW cars. ...more

A security vulnerability in the open source Samba server code could allow an external attacker to remotely and anonymously gain Super User (root) privileges.
