Epson launches direct-from-digicam printer

Epson launches the Stylus Photo 935 that prints straight from a digital camera. The 935 is a successor to the 925 and is the first printer to feature Epson's USB Direct Print technology, meaning you can hook up your camera directly to it via USB and print. The printer also comes with card slots for Compact Flash (Types I and II), SmartMedia, Memory Stick, SD, MultiMedia and Microdrive cards and a second USB port allows you to back up images from a card directly to an external CD-RW drive. ...more

Ofcom probes BSkyB's ITV investment

Ofcom has begun an enquiry into BSkyB's purchase of an 18 per cent stake in ITV. New chief executive Ed Richards chaired a meeting of the regulator's policy executive to examine whether the ?940 million stock purchase would result in a 'change of control' of ITV. Under the 2003 Communications Act's rules on cross-media ownership, BSkyB is prohibited from taking control of ITV, the UK's largest commercial broadcaster. ...more

Canadian scientists weave solar cells into clothes

Scientists in Canada have invented a new material based on nanotechnology which may one day remove the need for batteries. Instead, clothes may be woven with ultra fine solar cells which can gather the sun's energy and turn it into electricity. The team at the University of Toronto led by Ted Sargent, says that the solar cells based on a type of plastic collect infra red radiation rather than visible light used by conventional solar cells. ...more
