Samsung boast displeases Apple

Samsung appears to have lost the chance to supply chips for the next version of the iPod shuffle after an executive revealed that it had won the iPod nano contract. According to Wedbush Morgan Securities' analyst Craig Berger, Apple has punished the Korean company after Jon Kang, a senior vice president, boasted last month that it would succeed Portal Player as the nano's chip maker. Samsung has introduced its latest 19in, 1,280x1024 LCD monitor - the SyncMaster 931C. Other aspects of the display's technical specification include a 2000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, 2ms response time, 160? viewing angle and 250 cd/m? brightness. Comment: ADSL price fixing

BT claims to have sorted ADSL costs, but the move is likely to hamper competition at the root of the UK's broadband infrastructure. Two years ago, the unbundling of the local loop was touted as the final hurdle in de-monopolising BT and providing the UK with a competitive Internet market in which network providers could compete to provide for the ISP community. Apple schedules another special media event

Apple has scheduled another special media event, the third in the space of six weeks. The invitation-only event will take place in New York on 19 October, the day before the PhotoPlus Expo kicks off in the city. Apple marches on with Boot Camp

Apple has released a new beta version of Boot Camp, its software that enables Intel Macs to boot Windows XP. The update beta includes support for the latest Intel-based Macintosh computers; easier partitioning using presets for popular sizes; the ability to install Windows XP on any internal disk; and support for iSight cameras and built-in microphones. It also reconfigures Apple keyboards so that the right-hand command (Apple) key provides a right-click and adds support for the delete, printscreen, numlock, and scroll lock keys. ...more
