Nokia has joined open-source proponents such as IBM, making a promise not to assert its patents against the Linux kernel. Nokia cemented its interest in the open-source operating system Linux at this year's LinuxWorld Summit in New York with the announcement of its maemo project - designed to support its Linux-based platform for the Nokia 770 Internet Tablet.
