Gnutella users are a bunch of free-riders
Users of Gnutella and Napster may not be as altruistic as they like to make out, according to a recent survey.
The research, conducted by the Xerox Palo Alto Research Centre (Parc), shows that far from being the embodiment of the Internet's information-sharing culture, music- swapping services are predominantly used by free-loaders who aren't prepared to contribute anything.
According to the survey, based on a 24-hour snapshot of Gnutella usage, 70 per cent of Gnutella users don't share any of their own music files. ...more
Post Office to launch consumer broadband
The Post Office will be offering a broadband service to the public later this year. The broadband offering will be merged with its existing telephone service, HomePhone.

Browsers hit by dialog box spoofing security flaw
Several Web browsers are afflicted with a dialog box security vulnerability which can be exploited by malicious web sites to spoof dialog boxes.
Firefox, Internet Explorer, Mozilla, Netscape and Opera are affected by the flaw, where inactive windows can launch dialog boxes so they appear to be displayed by a website in another window or tab. Camera manufacturer Nikon has announced a new addition to its CoolPix digital camera range.
