Mozilla sets up corporate subsidiary

The Mozilla Foundation, the organisation behind the Firefox browser, is to set up a corporate subsidiary to manage the increasing business demands of its projects. By creating the Mozilla Corporation, the Foundations believes, it will be able to widen the appeal of Firefox and other free software projects such as the Thunderbird email client under development. MySpace seeks legal help to share predator emails

MySpace is exploring legal avenues to enable it to share data with local authorities regarding convicted sex offenders found using its service. It has now has filed a request in a Pennsylvania state court to seek guidance on how it can legally provide authorities with the private e-mails of known predators detected on MySpace. A federal law prevents Internet service providers such as MySpace from turning over a user's electronic communications without a search warrant. ...more

Microsoft already at work on Vista's successor, codenamed Vienna

With Vista barely a couple of months old, it seems that we won't have to wait five years until Microsoft unveils the new OS's replacement. Ben Fathi, a corporate VP in Microsoft's Windows Core Operating System Division, said in a media interview that the software company is drawing up plans to usurp the software with a follow-up codenamed 'Vienna'. Fathi said that work on Vista was delayed as the company got to grips with sorting out a number of security flaws in XP that prompted it to release Service Pack 2 in August 2004. ...more
