Internet Governance Forum to have first meeting

A new international forum to debate the future of the Internet has been created. The Internet Governance Forum (IGF) has been set up to debate how to bring the benefits of the Internet to developing countries, identify emerging issues, discuss solutions to the misuse of the Internet and disseminate the use of best practice throughout the world. Microsoft under legal attack again

Microsoft's busy legal representatives must be wondering if the current wave of legal attacks will ever abate, as the digital rights company Intertrust extended its legal action against the software giant over the weekend, seeking to stop the imminent sale of Windows XP. The main problem with owning one of those fancy handheld PDAs is that you can so easily run out of memory. Palm Inc has announced a new initiative that could mean Palm users will never be short of memory space. Nvidia to buy PortalPlayer

Nvidia has announced that it is to pay $357 million to acquire PortalPlayer, a manufacturer of processors, firmware and software for portable devices. PortalPlayer was founded in 1999 and is credited with pioneering technologies such as system-on-chip (SoC) that enabled the current generation of high-performance handhelds, including iPods, many of which also make use of graphics technology from Nvidia. IBM's Lotus unit is set to launch a service called Connections, dubbed as a 'MySpace for office workers' IBM is taking the battle for productivity software into the social networking arena. Up against the latest offerings from Office 2007, IBM's Lotus unit is set to launch a service called Connections featuring the online sharing of information. In a bid to improve the workings of groups it combines five components: member profiles, activities, blogs, communities and something called 'dogear', which is IBM's term for how users share web bookmarks with colleagues. ...more
