Google defuses linkbombing

Google has announced that it has made changes to its search algorithms in an attempt to eliminate the practice of Googlebombing: engineering search results to ensure that a query points to a specific, desired result. The search engine has previously tolerated Googlebombs, since the first was spotted in 2000. NTL and 02 seek mobile TV audience

Cable TV network NTL and mobile phone network operator mmO2 are to trial a television service delivered to mobile phones. Next spring, 500 O2 customers around Oxford will be given multimedia phones capable of receiving 16 TV channels. The channels will show music, sport, news, comedy, soaps, documentary, drama, cartoons and specialist content, including interactive gaming and shopping and the companies will analyse how the channels are used and what type of content the triallists value enough to pay for. ...more

BT announces 8Mb broadband for the UK

BT has announced the nationwide availability of broadband speeds up to 8Mbps, following a series of successful trials. BT puts more exchanges closer to broadband readiness

BT Wholesale has cut some of the trigger-levels for ADSL-enabling local exchanges. Such exchanges will now have lower registration targets in BT's broadband-ometer scheme, which tests local demand for fast Internet access.
