UK to pioneer download-to-own movies

Film fans will soon be able to download and keep DVD quality movies quite legally. Universal Pictures, one of the big Hollywood movie studios, says it will introduce the download service in the UK from next month and expects it to spread rapidly around the world shortly afterwards. Sony aims low with new Cli

Sony has announced an entry-level Cli? in the US for $149. The Clie PEG-SL10 is a Palm-based device will launch during the back-to-school period in order to grab as much of the student market as possible. With a Memory Stick slot and 8Mb of memory, it comes close in specification to the m125 (although the Sony boasts a screen of twice the resolution at 320x320). ...more

Toshiba has announced a new portable music player, the first to rival Apple's iPod in storage capacity, transfer speed and style. The Gigabeat can store up to 5Gb of music on removeable PC-card hard drives, which suggests that there is no limit to the amount of music you can easily carry around with you. Mass-mailing worm Mimail-A all set to burrow across Atlantic

Sophos has issued a full emergency alert regarding a Mimail-A worm. The mass mailing worm has already been detected in the States, as of Friday 1 August, and the concern is that it will spread rapidly in the UK from the beginning of this working week. 'The Mimail worm is getting a second lease of life as UK businesses log on to start a new working week,' said Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant at Sophos Anti-Virus. ...more
