Cable & Wireless, the owners of Bulldog, may be about to withdraw from the retail broadband market. Several Sunday newspapers have reported that C&W is concerned that the UK broadband market may be approaching saturation point. BBC boss sees digital TV timescale slipping

When the analogue signal is switched off, all UK TV viewers will have to receive digital broadcasts, but the BBC's boss has warned that the timescales are slipping. The government's plan is for the whole of the UK to receive digital TV by 2010. Oftel gives high-priority ADSL exchanges an Easter deadline

Oftel called an emergency meeting between itself, BT and other UK telcos to address mounting concerns over BT's unbundling of local exchanges and the lack of interest from operators. The result of the apparently constructive meeting is that Oftel has pulled forward the deadline for the opening of the more popular exchanges to before Easter, and BT will begin taking orders for these next month.
