Konica Minolta has announced that it is withdrawing from the digital camera market and transferring its assets to Sony. The two companies have been jointly developing digital SLR cameras since July 2005 with the lenses and bodies being supplied by Konica Minolta. The transfer of assets will enable camera owners to continue to use Maxxum/Dynax lenses, which Sony has committed to supporting with compatible mounts in future camera models. ...more

Dixons launches Internet phone service

The Dixons Group which revolutionised the ISP business with the launch of Freeserve in 1998, now hopes to play the same trick with the telephone business. The company is launching a 'Freetalk` all-in-one unit which is aimed at transforming the telephone business. Freetalk, which will be sold in DSG 1000 PC World, Dixon, Currey and Link stores throughout the UK is based on VoIP technology developed by 8x8 Inc, one of the US's leading suppliers. ...more

Microsoft delays Vista

Microsoft has dropped a bombshell on users and computer manufacturers alike by pushing back the release of the much delayed Windows Vista operating system. Now, the business version of the new operating system will not arrive until November with the home user version pushed back until January 2007. It means that while Microsoft will keep its promise to ship Vista in 2006, it will only appear in offices with IT staff deploying the new operating system in the party season. ...more
