UPDATED: SuSE goes to Novell for $210mn

Novell has acquired Linux vendor SuSE for $210mn in cash, helped by a $50mn hand from IBM. The deal, still subject to regulatory approval, will make Novell the only $1bn software company with its own Linux distro and mean it is also the world's largest supplier of 'desktop-to-server' Linux solutions. QuickTime phone debut

Japanese mobile phone company NTT DoCoMo has included support for Apple's QuickTime format in three new 3G mobile phones. The phones will be able to receive and play streamed QuickTime content on their handsets. The phones support the 3GPP standard, based on MPEG-4 which in turn uses the QuickTime file format as its foundation. ...more

HP adopts Adobe's PDF

HP has reached an agreement with Adobe Systems to license Adobe's Portable Document Format (PDF) libraries as a preferred format for Internet printing within its product range. HP will add the functionality initially to its Photosmart cameras, scanners and all-in-one devices with products coming to market early next year.
