YouTube has begun to reveal how it hopes to cash in on its phenomenal success by announcing two new advertising concepts: Participatory Video Ads (PVA) and Brand Channels. A PVA is a user-initiated video advertisement with all of the YouTube community features enabled. Microsoft simplifies its virtualisation licences

Microsoft has announced a comprehensive overhaul of its virtual machine licensing as part of its push to get its customers moving towards a dynamic systems network model. Self-managing dynamic systems are becoming increasingly prevalent in the larger scale enterprises where resources are allocated dynamically through virtual machines. The deployment of dynamic systems not only saves on hardware costs as many virtual machines can run on a single physical box, it also cuts down the time spent by IT staff in maintaining the plethora of computers linked together in the network. ...more

VIA puts security at the core of new processor

VIA technologies has announced its C5J 'Esther' processor core, aimed at mobile and embedded devices, with support for a range of industry standard security features. 'Our approach to processor design allows small, fanless devices to carry out the most demanding security operations while simultaneously processing today's increasingly sophisticated digital entertainment applications,' said Glenn Henry, President of Centaur Technology - the VIA division that designed the new core. 'The new architecture of the C5J Esther core will allow us to ramp up processor speeds to 2GHz and above within the same thermal design points as previous cores, opening up new markets for our processors and extending the reach of the x86 architecture into new device categories. ...more

Intel sites 300mm wafer factory in Israel

Intel is looking to boost its chip production capabilities by building its seventh 300mm wafer factory - Fab 28 - which will produce microprocessors on 45 nanometer (nm) process technology. Sited at Kiryat Gat, Israel, the $3.5 billion project is expected to generate 2,000 jobs and be completed in the second half of 2008. ...more

Apple sells full-length movie through iTMS

Apple has for the first time begun selling a full-length movie through the US iTunes Music Store. Costing $9.99, High School Musical is a made-for-TV movie from the Disney Channel that tells the story of 'two teens who are worlds apart who meet at a karaoke contest and discover their mutual love for music'. ...more
