Flash in your pocket

Macromedia has announced it has reached an agreement to release a Flash 5 player for handheld devices based on Microsoft's Pocket PC platform. According to the software corporation, PocketPC got the vote because of its inherent 16-bit colour, built-in audio capabilities and up to 206MHz processing power. Devices that will ship with the player include Compaq's iPaq, Casio's Cassiopeia, and Hewlett-Packard's Jornada PDAs. ...more

Universal puts 100 movies through the HD DVD mill

Universal Studios Home Entertainment (USHE) is further throwing its weight behind HD DVD, the next-gen DVD format. It plans to release 100 HD DVD film and TV titles in 2007 - including the likes of Scarface and Brokeback Mountain - to increase momentum behind HD DVD. OSDL strengthens links with developer community

The Open Source Development Labs (OSDL) has set up a technical advisory board to beef up its communications with the developer community. The OSDL, which employs the likes of Linus Torvalds and Andrew Morton, is a vendor-funded non-profit organisation pitched as a centre of gravity for Linux technology.
