iMac goes widescreen

Apple has unveiled a new top-of-the-range iMac, with a 17 inch widescreen LCD display. The 1440x900 pixel display has the same viewing area as a 19 inch CRT monitor and is powered, for the first time in an iMac, by an nVidia GeForce 4 MX graphics card. The long-running legal saga over Apple's ColorSync looks to have finally come to an end, with the US Court of Appeal rejecting claims that ColorSync violates another company's patents. Compaq hitches wagon to Itanium

Intel is getting a huge vote of confidence from Compaq in the form of a cross-licensing deal that will see Intel's Itanium processors eventually used in all Compaq's servers. In return, Intel has agreed to buy Compaq's Alpha server chip technology. All staff currently working on Alpha at Compaq will be employed by Intel although an upcoming Alpha chip, the EV7, will still be released by Compaq and an upgraded AlphaServer GS series will be available in the summer. ...more
