Sasser and Phatbot worm writers arrested in Germany

German police have confirmed that on Friday they arrested a teenager in connection with the outbreak of the `Sasser` worm. Sven Jaschen, 18, from Lower Saxony is also reported to have been responsible for all 28 versions of the 'Netsky' worm which has been causing havoc in the world's PCs since February. In a seemingly related move, the police in the German state of Baden-Wuerttemberg have arrested a 21-year-old man who is said to be behind `Agobot` and later as `Phatbot` worms. ...more

AMD faces 64-bit challenge

At Linuxworld, New York, AMD has unveiled Virtuhammer, a Linux simulation tool for its upcoming 64-bit server processor, Hammer, in an attempt to attract software developers into adopting it over rival Intel's Itanium chip. For AMD, Linux looks to be the only place to get a foothold in the market, as the other main platforms, such as Windows and Sun's Solaris are gearing up for the Itanium. Intel has the edge over AMD here too, though: not only is it releasing its processor earlier, but it also demonstrated the actual products at Linuxworld and voiced a strong commitment to the platform. ...more
